Mikel Arteta has confirmed Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya is an injury doubt for Saturday’s Premier League game against Leicester City.

Now firmly established as the club’s No.1, Raya has been in outstanding form and contributed significantly to the Gunners’ unbeaten start to the new season.

The Spain international, however, sustained a muscle injury during last weekend’s 2-2 draw at the home of champions Manchester City.

Raya missed Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie and with summer signings Neto and Tommy Steford out, due to being cup-tied and injured, 16-year-old Jack Portermade his debut.

Arteta will hope to have Raya available for the visit of struggling Leicester but will be forced into making a late call.

There was more encouraging news on Jurrien Timber, however, with the versatile defender back in training having also missed the Bolton win after he limped out of the game at City.

‘Jurrien was able to take part in training today so he will be available in the squad and Ben hopefully as well,’ confirmed Arteta.

Mikel Merino is also making excellent progress from the shoulder injury which he suffered in his first training session with his new club and has thus far prevented him from making his deubt.

‘Tomorrow is too soon, next week we will see,’ added Arteta when asked about the progress the summer signing from Real Sociedad is making.

‘He had partial training today, he has been working so hard and looked really good. It is just about the healing of that bone and how mature that is to expose us to contact basically.’
